Going Native

For this project we worked with the Escondido Creek Conservancy on marketing, trail guides, and logos based on the ecology of the Escondido watershed. All classes worked together on different components of this project, such as designing logo "bugs" in multimedia and looking at cactus dispersal in environmental science.

Logo Design

We created a bug for the Escondido Creek Conservancy, which is a small image which represents their name and logo. To the left is an image of my final bug, which I created in order to represent the interaction between the animals and habitats of the creek. This image combines the sillhouette of a coyote with the trees, grasses, and overall habitat that it lives in. When the ECC said that it wanted native species incorporated in its bug, I decided to focus on animals and how to simplify them into a bug. I started with a salamander, but then decided that I could do more with a coyote.

Native Species

Arboreal Salamander

The arboreal salamander is a species native to coastal California, from the Sierra Nevada foothills all the way down to Baja. This salamander lives and reproduces in the coastal live oak trees that make up much of the Escondido watershed's tree clusters. This animal is also included in our app, a guide to the Escondido watershed's ecology.

Trail Guide

For our project, we created a trail guide to the Elfin Forest, highlighting important trails and cool ecological sites.
