In this project, we created truncated triangular prisms where we depicted quotes that inspired us in some way. Each piece is individual, however all pieces can be combined to create a icosahedron which represents the entire class.

To the left are images of my final product. The truncated triangullar prism is formed and my image is attatched to one face.

This is the final draft of my image for the front of the prism. It showns the track on the bottom, slightly out of focus, and the quote splits the horizon. I feel that this final image perfectly represents the theme I originally wanted to portray, in a way that is easy to read and understand. Just goes to show the importance of critique, because my image now is significantly more meaningful than the original draft.

This was my first draft of the image I wanted to put on my truncated triangular prism. It has the track that I wanted, but the words blend in with the lines and overall the image is plain. I brought up the plain component of this draft to my peers and they had great critique for me. In both rounds of critique, people brought up the fact that the white text did not stand out with the white lines of the track. Also, having Jerry Rice's name in the image was distracting and awkward. During the second round of critique, one of my peers suggested choosing a different image, where the track and the horizon were both present. That way I could still keep the the quote split into two pieces, but it would be easier to read. Also, that would give the impression of how the present and the future correlate. Finally, we decided that the track should not be the focus of the image, but rather that the quote should stand out.

I choose a quote by football player Jerry Rice, which I have used for years as inspiration, especially for difficult sports training. The quote is "Today I do what others will not, so that tomorrow I will achieve what others cannot." The idea that captures my attention is that there is worth to the hardwork I am doing today, even though it is difficult, and would be so much easier to sit comfortably at home. However, this quote reminds me that even though it is more difficult and less apealing to work hard in the moment, it all pays off in the end. The image that I chose to represent my quote on the class's icosahedron is of an empty track. An empty track is an invitation to run and to push yourself, even when others choose not to be there. To me, this represents the idea of working and training when my peers choose not to. This image may be of sports, but the idea applies to all areas of life. When I started this project, I knew that I wanted to have an empty track represent my quote, but it took a great deal of peer critique to become beautiful work.
